Tucson (KVOA) – On January 2nd, Rosemary and George Hernandez celebrated their first son’s birthday with the usual joy and laughter. On Monday, they spent part of the day at the cemetery to remember Jesse’s birthday.
He was violently murdered eight months ago.
Holding back tears, Rosemary Hernandez told News 4 Tucson:
“I can’t believe we were a family of four and now we are three. I will be heartbroken for the rest of my life,” Hernandez said.
Instead of gathering at their parents’ home for dinner, cake and music, they gathered at South Lawn Cemetery to mourn the loss of their loved ones.
They had his favorite Arizona Cardinal hat, sunglasses and rosary.
“We are here to celebrate his birthday. He may not be here in physical form, but I know he is with us,” said Jesse. ‘s younger brother Giovanni.
His mother said he was a very loving, giving and thoughtful person.
He was raised in a religious household and it is their faith in God that keeps him through his living nightmares. So they pray for strength and guidance
“Always, every day, every night, every morning,” commented his father, George.
This is where my son was shot in broad daylight by 32-year-old Damian Hall on May 31, 2022 at an Extended Stay Motel in Minsk. They say their son was visiting a friend.
The mother claims she was shot three times “in the back while trying to get out of the room.”
Hall was arrested for murder and is currently out of Pima County Jail.
Tucson police said witnesses saw him flee the scene.
Hall makes a plea and will be sentenced to High Earl on Tuesday.
The family was not satisfied with the plea and said they could face a sentence of seven to 20 years in prison.
In their minds, it’s not enough to take life.
