For the first time in 20 years, Ponsonby’s fairy shops, cafés and children’s event venues are on the market.
“This has got to be one of the most interesting companies in the country,” says Ann-Maree Rowe, ABC Business Sales.
“For over 20 years, thousands of Kiwi children from all over Auckland and beyond have brought their parents to the highly visible Fairy Shop at 79 Ponsonby Rd,” says Rowe.
According to her, the concept of a fairy-themed children’s party venue was brought to New Zealand from Australia in the mid-1990s. The original owner of this store knew how to combine enterprise with childhood fantasies.

Seven years later, the Fairy Shop has undergone a complete renovation, expanding retail space, upgrading facilities and adding a revenue-boosting café.

According to Rowe, Ponsonby is one of the country’s strongest retail and entertainment districts, consistently drawing visitors from across the Auckland region and beyond.
“Part of Ponsonby’s continued appeal comes from its sense of community, and Fairy Shop has been a part of it since it first opened its doors.
“This is an affluent neighborhood that emphasizes local businesses and is popular with young parents who see it as a great place to raise their children, close to work in the city.”
Rowe said the Fairy Shop already sells a number of luxury brands, and with a growing portfolio of trading partners, there are more opportunities.
“This is a great retail opportunity with room to grow.”
She said the following custodians are responsible for the business’s fledgling online presence and are poised to develop and expand its online retail capabilities.
