New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday greeted Federal Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiradhitya Scindia on his birthday.
Modi also praised his work in ensuring a vibrant aviation sector with a strong focus on connectivity.
“Birthday greetings to Union Minister Sri Jyotiradhitya Scindia Ji who is working to ensure a vibrant aviation sector focused on connectivity and to boost the steel sector. I wish you a long and healthy life,” Modi tweeted.
Born on January 1, 1971, Scindia is the grandson of Jivajirao Scindia, the last Maharajah of the Kingdom of Gwalior. His father Madhavrao Scindia was a politician and minister in Rajiv Gandhi’s government.
Back in 2020, Scindia ended her 18-year relationship with parliament and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). In 2021, Scindia was given a portfolio of the Ministry of Civil Aviation.
He was promoted to Minister of Oil and Natural Gas, succeeding Haddeep Singh Puri, who also serves as the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
Scindia has served five times as a Member of Parliament, serving as Minister for Communications and Information Technology under the parliamentary-led UPA I government and as Minister of State for Trade and Industry under the UPA II government.
Scindia played a key role when the BJP returned to power in Madhya Pradesh last year after parliament ruled the state for 15 months.
Bright and charismatic, Cindia is a Raja Sabha Member of Parliament from Madhya Pradesh. He served as the UPA-II Government’s Minister of State for Commerce and Industry from 2009 to his 2012 term. Scindia served as Minister of State for Power (independent charge) from 2012 until 2014.
A member of the royal family of Gwalior, Scindia was first elected Lok Sabha from Guna in 2002 after her father Madhavrao Scindia died in a plane crash.
Madhavrao Scindia was elected to the House of Representatives in 1971 at the age of 26, winning nine consecutive elections from the Gwalior and Guna constituencies.
Jyotirdaditya Scindia suffered a shock loss from the Guna parliamentary seat in the 2019 Lok Sabha poll. He is the president of his Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association. The BJP leader holds his MBA from Stanford University and his BA from Harvard University.
