“I remember all the mannequins in the basement,” recalls Julie Murray, owner of Nyack’s Pink Chandelier Design Studio for Girls.
In 2008, these mannequins, which she now calls Hudson Avenue home, were the inspiration for a fashion show-themed party created for Murray’s then eight-year-old daughter, Nia.
“She wanted a fashion party,” explains Murray. “So I went to the Rockland Center for the Arts and rented a space. It was fun; everyone had a great time.”

At the time, Murray was a wedding and event designer and lifestyle journalist living in Nyack. After Nia’s party, she started organizing fashion and design inspired parties at her ROCA. In September 2010, plans for a party at ROCA came to an end and The Pink Chandelier was born. (It’s not Julie’s idea of her name, but she named her after her husband, Ron, who works for the NYPD.)
This summer, Pink Chandelier will be offering 2.5 hours of camp couture daily, Monday through Friday. Camps are for ages 6 and up.

There is also a drop-in open playdate program and a theater program (Take a Bow) taught by director and playwright Wendy Baker. To reserve your spot on an open play date, call 24 hours in advance with the names and numbers of your friends who will be attending the fun. Girls can participate in themed activities (such as cake and cookie design) and choose from cool games, books and magazines for some good old girl fun.
Murray is still involved in planning special events and will soon include this part of her business under her one large pink chandelier. (Furniture of the same name hanging in Nyak Studio.)
“I do high-end weddings, but I also make sure I work with brides on a budget,” Murray explained. “Fresh, modern, hip and chic are our signature weddings.”
Murray’s daughters Amber and Nia are delighted that their mother opened the pink chandelier. Her just-three-year-old son Jaden tells Julie how cute all the girls in the studio and their dresses are.
Near’s party mannequin is ready for your next design adventure in a beautiful crepe paper dress in the studio. Come and help build your next wardrobe, or visit Julie and her staff at her Nyack Street Fair on May 15th.
