The Institute kicks off the spring season by celebrating its 40th anniversary and founder William Kennedy’s 95th birthday on January 19 at the University of Albany. The evening will feature a ceremony honoring Kennedy and his 40 years in the Writers Association, culminating in a reception complete with his birthday cake and refreshments.

Discussions with prominent authors during the spring season include: Acclaimed Irish poet Paul Muldoon. Jennifer Egan, author of “A Visit from the Goons”.
Additional events include tech journalist Andy Greenberg discussing crime and cryptocurrency on January 26th. Millennial journalists Helen Andrews and Jill Filipovich explore the mixed heritage of baby boomers on Feb. 16. On March 7th, international supermodel Paulina Politskova spoke about beauty, aging and her new book No Filter: The Good, the Bad, and the Beautiful.
The 3rd annual Albany Film Festival on April 1st this year features feature and short film screenings from emerging and acclaimed directors, talks with filmmakers, and an awards ceremony. Movies like Daughters of the Dust, Indignation, The Ice Storm, and Last Exit to Brooklyn hit theaters in February and March, with Daughters of the Dust writer and director Julie Dash, ‘Induction’ and ‘Ice Storm’ writer James Sheamus, and actor Stephen Lang, currently starring in ‘Avatar: Path of Water’, will join the conversation on the day of the festival.
