Missoula, Missoula (KGVO-AM News) – At approximately 8:30 pm on January 2, 2023, officers from the Missoula State Police Department were dispatched to the 800 block area of W. Broadway. Dispatch reported that a car theft had occurred. The caller witnessed a man get into a white passenger car and crash into another of his SUVs. Dispatch could hear the caller yelling at the man to sit down.
Officers rushed to the scene and found the suspect’s car parked near the intersection of West Broadway and Scott Street. Officers took custody and identified a male suspect as Raven Kutch, 20, according to court documents. Officers observed two more men at the scene and obtained statements from them.
The first male was identified as EG. EG told Missoula he was sitting in the passenger seat of a fresh white Honda Accord that was parked just outside the south exit of the market. EG said he was just waiting in the car for his girlfriend, who was still inside the store. EG then gestured towards Kutch, saying he jumped into the driver’s seat and immediately started driving away.
EG said Kutch accelerated rapidly in the parking lot to speeds of about 20 miles per hour. According to EG, Kutch turned west down the aisle of the parking lot, but instead of going straight, he turned into the corner behind an empty black SUV. Upon crashing, Kutch immediately fled west on foot. EG said he was not injured in the crash, but that he hit Kutch in the head in an attempt to stop him from driving.
A crash investigation was conducted and Kutch was arrested. After some research, the sale price of the Honda Accord Private His Party turned out to be around $1,700. After Kutch was arrested, officers conducted a search case for his arrest and noticed a small pointed object in Kutch’s left pocket. Another officer helped with the search, pulling out an object that turned out to be a bent spoon with charred residue on it. The officer pointed out that from his training and experience, spoons with residues like this are typically used to heat and ingest dangerous drugs.
In addition, officers found a green tablet crusher with white residue on the top and a clear glass pipe with burnt residue on top. Officers suspected each of these items had been used to ingest dangerous drugs. It was put on hold until it was transported to the Montana State Crime Institute.
Kutch is currently charged with felony criminal endangerment, felony theft, and criminal possession of drug paraphernalia.
