Matchbox celebrates its 70th anniversary by releasing a series of limited edition diecast cars. Commemorative vehicles scheduled to hit stores in 2023 include an amazingly diverse selection, from vintage European sedans to the latest model pickups.
Official details are few and far between, but photos released by Matchbox parent company Mattel seem to tell the tale. The car, designed for the company’s 70th anniversary, features a special livery. Some are silver with black and orange accents, while others are orange with black and silver accents. Most models have at least one thing in common. Features an edition-specific “70 Years” decal.
Looking at the 70th anniversary cars makes me feel like a kid in a toy store. We found an MG B GT, a first generation Toyota 4Runner, a fixed roof and convertible version of a Maurice Minor, his original Mini, and his two Porsche 911s. If you like new cars, there are Ford F-150, Nissan GT-R, Bugatti Divo, Mercedes-Benz G63 6×6 and many more. Not all cars. There are 3 fire trucks (2 with working ladders), a double-decker bus, a helicopter with working rotors, and even a Boeing 747.
Matchbox’s commemorative die-cast car will be released in many global markets throughout 2023, and it’s not the only special release the company has planned for its 70th anniversary. In July 2023, we will announce other surprises in store to celebrate this milestone.
