Artesia, Calif. (KABC) — A 25-year-old pregnant woman was shot dead while on her way to a birthday party with her father in Artesia.Distraught family believes this was no accidental act
The shooting occurred at approximately 7:30 pm on Thursday, December 29, at the intersection of Pioneer and Artesia Streets.
Marissa Perez, who was expecting a baby in June, was in the passenger seat of a car as her father drove to pick up a birthday cake.
According to Perez’s mother, Sandra Tolentino, who spoke with EyeWitness News on Monday, the driver stopped next to the father and daughter and began firing. According to her mother, Perez was shot in the head. Including that, he was shot several times.
“She was 25. She was about to become a mother in five months. She was very happy.”
“She always cared for so many people. Her heart was literally on her sleeve every day.”
A memorial filled with flowers and heartfelt messages has been placed at the crossroads of the shooting as the hunt for the shooter continues.
Tolentino and her family, describing Perez as “the most loyal, loving, outgoing and strongest person”, are heartbroken as they try to make sense of such a tragedy that occurred just days before New Year’s. I’m here.
“She should never have been taken away from us like that,” Tolentino said. I’m so sad, don’t hold a grudge, just love me, love me hard, because you never know when it’s the last time to say goodbye. “
The sheriff’s department has not released a suspect or a description of the suspect.
