Kerber’s Farm, an idyllic Huntington farm with a history dating back to 1941, will open an outpost in Manhattan’s West Village on February 1st.
The new spot will serve decadent pies, scones, muffins, and baked goods eaten by Long Islander and Oprah. — I fell in love with it. (Kerber’s three pies, including the eponymous Kerberry ($39), made with strawberry, raspberry, blueberry, orange peel, clove, and bread crumb toppings, were among “Oprah’s Favorites” in 2017. Nominated for.) Enjoy New York’s iconic breakfast sandwich with bacon, eggs and cheese on an oversized buttermilk cheddar biscuit. In the summer, we sell fresh flowers and honey from the farm’s apiary.
The 1,200-square-foot Bleecker location is located on one of Manhattan’s best-loved food streets, home to Rocco’s, John’s Pizza, Faiko’s, Ottomanelli’s, Murray’s Cheese Shop, and other old-school staples of downtown food culture. shoulder to shoulder. Current owner Nick Voulgaris is thrilled to have purchased Kerber’s in 2013 when he heard the property, a childhood workhorse, was going into disrepair and becoming a condominium. Over the last nine years, he has restored a vegetable garden, raised beehives and raised 250 hens on a no-nonsense farm with pigs, sheep, goats and cayuga ducks. Kerber’s also opened a farm school, added cooking classes, and hosted children’s birthday parties.
Bulgaris, who lives in Manhattan’s West Village, explained that the seeds for the city’s outpost were “planted over the years.” His friends would always ask him to bring home pies from the farm. He “became a sort of ferry service” carrying baked goods through bridges and tunnels.
Besides the company he joined at Bleecker, Voulgaris is most excited to walk around the corner to work instead of commuting to Huntington.
