The Pittsburgh Jewish Chronicle invites you to join the discussion of “Waking Lions” by Ayelet Gundar-Goshen on February 5th at the Chronicle Book Club. The novel was a co-winner of the prestigious 2017 Jewish Quarterly Wingate Literature Award. From the New York Times: “Eitan Green, the protagonist of Israeli author Ayelet Gundar-Ghoshen’s novel The Lions Awaken, is a respected neurosurgeon whose career dispute forced him to move from Tel Aviv to the desert town of Beersheba. Forced to move: Dust is everywhere, “a thin white layer that no one wants, like icing on a birthday cake.” Late one night, while driving his SUV through a remote area, he bumped into an Eritrean man walking by the side of the road. And when the victim decides that there is nothing he can do about it, he impulsively runs away from the scene… Waking Lions is a sophisticated, dark and ambitious novel that reveals a facet of Israeli life rarely seen in its literature. ”
