LAFAYETTE — Going to college without family and friends can be tough. UL students have lived in the luxury of home with grandmas on campus.
“She was the welcoming face I saw every time I walked into the cafeteria. As soon as I swiped my card and saw her smiling there, I just went there and hugged her or shook her hand. I had to do it,” says former student Rachel Lewis. “She will be the best grandma I could have.”
Mrs. Angelina Narcisse, also known as “Ma,” has been a pillar of UL for over 65 years. Her role in the school lunch service on her campus included many duties, such as feeding her hunger, but she also took extra steps… She also Feed her many hearts.
“That’s what I called all my students. They were all my babies,” says Angelina Narcisse. ”

Narcisse has been taking a break from her ambassadorship since 2020 due to COVID.

Raised on a farm and had little education, she has continued to cook. But hard work is her recipe for love that lasts a lifetime.
