Level the cakes with a knife so theyll stack quickly, then frost and stack between the layers.
Use a knife to round the edges of the leading layer into a rounded dome shape.
Use a skim coat (or “crumb coat”) of frosting to the outside of the stacked cakes, and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
Use a leading layer of white icing to the cake, then sprinkle with carefully shredded coconut for a fluffy “plumes” texture.
To embellish, use blueberries for the eyes, and cut a soft-boiled carrot into little shapes for the beak, feet, and head “comb” on the chick.
