LOUISVILLE, Kentucky (WAVE) – A Louisville woman has been missing for years, and her family is still searching for answers.
They use days like her birthday to keep that hope alive.
Andrea Knabel disappeared in August 2019.
She was last seen walking between her family’s homes in Audubon Park.
Her family still hopes to see her again.
Saturday marked Andrea’s 41st birthday and her family hosted a memorial service for her as the search continues.
For Andrea in the new year, life is what she shared with her sister. They won’t be able to spend this time together, but the family hopes they will have the chance again.
It has been 1,243 days since Andrea Knabel’s family last saw her.
In a situation where most people would have already given up hope, father Mike says his family continues to search.
“We support each other,” said Andrea’s father, Mike Nabel. “We keep each other high and when we don’t, we lift each other up. We celebrate our family, friends and thousands of people who are here to pray for us.”
But it’s not always easy. Mike said the search for her daughter had stopped and it became harder to catch a glimmer of hope in her.
“We definitely have down days, and for me it’s usually around holidays, birthdays, etc. It gets really emotional,” Mike said.
Days like Saturday are also emotional for Andrea’s sister, Erin.
She shares the same birthday as her sister and treats the day like a holiday.
For her, including Andrea in the celebration is the only way she wants to celebrate.
Erin Nabel, Andrea’s sister, said, “I think the next best thing to getting her here is to raise awareness and do something to bring her back home.” This is how we celebrate our birthdays together.”
Mike Nabel said Erin’s constant work doesn’t stop with her sister alone. rice field.
In the meantime, all Erin asks is for the community to continue to support them in the hope that one day they can help find Andrea.
“Even little things like sharing a missing poster can seem unimportant,” Erin said. “Solving missing person cases every day is just sharing missing person posters. So keep doing what we are doing. ”
Missing person posters for Andrea have spread not just all over Louisville, but across the country, and her family says they won’t stop spreading until she’s found.
