As we enter the new year, the Coconut Grove Business Improvement District continues its series of events as it prepares to celebrate the neighborhood’s 150th anniversary.
Themed “Grove Heritage,” Coconut Grove BID plans to create monthly events that add magic and memories to all Grove residents and visitors, said Cynthia Seymour, executive director of BID. says.
The year-long celebration begins on the streets of the business district on Friday (1/6) with birthday cakes, entertainment and historical reenactments.
“We’re going to look at all the different historical elements,” Seymour said. “In March we will focus on the history of women and artists whose art history is a real strong undercurrent of Coconut Grove, and at the Coconut Grove Arts Festival Focus on history.”
Other historic events in the spotlight include the Pan-American and Miami City Hall Aviation History.
“We will focus on telling these historic stories month by month, concluding the holiday season like we did last year with this summit and grand finale,” added Seymour. Throughout the year. “
BID has a real opportunity to set the stage and make all these dramatic and fun moments fun and memorable, she said.
“Here at The Grove, the beautiful sidewalks have been reworked and we have worked with the landscape architecture team to recreate the streets as pedestrian zones,” explained Seymour. “The idea is that the streets actually absorb rainwater, so there is an environmental aspect. It’s all about where music is played and where dancing takes place.”
