Do you know any business with a really cryptic name that you struggle to decipher its meaning, especially if it seems to have random numbers in it? Well, this is not one of them. Palazzone 1960is, as you might guess, the Palazzone family bakery, founded in 1960. The first bakery opened in Clifton, New Jersey, but was sold ten years later when the family returned to Italy. However, in 2012, one of his sons returned to the Jersey shores (though not the Jersey Shores) and opened this particular cafe/bakery, named in honor of the original family business.
Palazzone 1960 is a cafe in both senses. This means that they not only serve coffee drinks, but also offer a limited breakfast and lunch selection. The former menu is mostly pastries, the latter includes pastas, salads and paninis. However, whether you stop by for a meal, coffee, or a very elegant birthday cake, it would be a shame to leave the establishment without a cannoli or three: Palazzone 1960’s ricotta and chocolate Filled with chips and topped with his sliver of candied orange peel. Want more cannoli cream? It’s also used in Palazzone’s Zeppole di San Giuseppe (the signature dish of Italy’s patron saint) and the cannoli cake (the signature dish for everyone who loves both cannoli and cake, including us) .
